Getting started

How do I get started with Stint?

First things first, visit our 'Contact Us' page and we'll be in touch to arrange demo.

Once you give us the green light, we'll kick-off the implementation process, tried and tested with some of the biggest names in hospitality:

  • With your insight, we'll identify the key staffing patterns unique to your operations.
  • We'll work closely with your team to determine your Stint roles, responsibilities, and how to integrate them in your rota.
  • Backed by leading case studies, Stint's results will speak for themselves!

Throughout and beyond implementation, your experience is our continued priority, so our fantastic Account Management and Support teams will always be on hand to optimise your Stint journey.

What type of staff does Stint provide?

Our workforce consists of over 250,000 Stinters - primarily university students who want to work in a flexible way around their studies. Throughout the implementation process we work closely with you to understand your operations, and create Stint roles tailored to your needs.

While prior hospitality experience isn't a prerequisite for Stinters, we have refined matching processes in place that ensure consistency, reliability, and top peformance. So if you need it, we'll make sure your favourite Stinters keep returning to your business, Stint after Stint!

To derive the most value for your business, it's best to integrate Stints into your weekly rota to support your core team. That said, if you're ever short-staffed or need to replace a team member who's called in sick, we do that too!

We'll discuss your preferences during your demo, which you can request here.

How does Stint work?

What's is a Stint / Stinter?

Stints are 2-8 hour shifts, integrated into your weekly rota to support your existing team.

Stinters are primarily university students who want to work in a flexible way around their studies.

How do I post Stints?

Once you've become a Stint Partner, you'll gain access to our mobile and web apps. Simply log into your account, navigate to 'My Stints', and you're in control.

From there, you'll specify Stint roles, uniform and timings. You'll also be able to post, edit and coordinate your Stints, with your changes updating seamlessly between mobile and web.

If you ever need guidance or have questions about managing your Stints, our dedicated Support Team is just a call away.

What is your fulfilment rate?

99.8%.

How do you assign Stints to Stinters?

Our matching process ensures we find the best-suited Stinter for each of your Stints. We take into account Stinters' profiles, including their ratings, reliability, and past performance.

Stinters see the Stints they've been matched with in their app, and are able to browse their offers and accept the ones they'd like.

Can I post Stints at short-notice?

Yes, all businesses have the flexibility to post Stints at short notice via the app.

While we service short-notice Stints, we do encourage posting in advance where possible!

Here's why:

  • Posting in advance enables our matching process to prioritise the Stinters you've previously rated highly.
  • Your favourite, familiar Stinters are much less likely to be on hand at short-notice.

Integrating Stints into your weekly rota will mean you're less likely to require Stints at short-notice, and will notably enhance your Stint experience!

Can I set uniform requirements?

Absolutely, you have the flexibility to set uniform requirements for all of your Stints.

These are the most commonly requested uniform items:

  • Black t-shirt
  • Black trainers
  • Black jeans
  • Black long-sleeve collared shirt
  • White long-sleeve collared shirt
  • Smart black trousers
  • Smart black shoes
  • Black socks

If you have any items of uniform specific to your business you would like the Stinter to wear (aprons, jackets etc.) please include them when specifying uniform requirements.

We have a disciplinary system in place that penalises non-compliance. If you have any specific questions or preferences about setting uniform requirements, our Support Team will be on hand to help.

Can Stinters work overtime?

On some occasions, you may require a Stint for a little longer than anticipated. You have flexibility to extend the end-time, provided the Stinter is available and happy to continue!

What happens if a Stinter is late?

We have a three-strike disciplinary system in place, which penalises lateness.

Additionally, pay is deducted from a Stinter's payslip if they arrive late, ensuring they're only paid for the time worked. The amount you pay for the Stint will be subsisdised accordingly.

On the occassion of a Stinter arriving late, you may choose to request that they compensate with overtime. This will be taken into account in our payment process as well.

What is Stint's cancellation policy?

You can cancel a Stint in the 'My Stints' section in the app. Before you cancel, please be aware of our cancellation policy to avoid extra charges.

No assignment or within 5 minutes of posting: No charge
Cancellation over 24 hours before: No charge
Cancellation 12-24 hours before: 10% charge
Cancellation 6-12 hours before: 20% charge
Cancellation 3-6 hours before: 40% charge
Cancellation 1-3 hours before: 60% charge
Cancellation <1 hour before (Stint < 4 hours): 100% charge
Cancellation <1 hour before (Stint > 4 hours): 85% charge

What if a Stinter doesn't arrive for their Stint?

It's very rare for a Stinter to not show up for a Stint. If there's ever a delay or any last-minute changes with your assigned Stinter, we'll always keep you posted beforehand.

In the unlikely scenario where a Stinter doesn't show up and you haven't been informed, please reach out to our Support Team promptly. We'll find you a replacement as soon as possible.

The Stint workforce (Stinters)

How do you ensure Stinters are over the age of 18?

A Stinter's date of birth is confirmed during the identity verification process on sign-up. This involves the scanning of official identity documents, so the process is stringent and reliable.

Is there a screening process for Stinters to use Stint?

There is no interview process for Stinters, and having hospitality experience is not a prerequisite to join the platform. We do, however, have internal processes that are fundamental to maintaining quality. Please have a read in the ‘Quality Assurance’ section!

Stinters must have the right to work in the UK and be over 18, and we have a stringent screening process to ensure compliance:

  1. During sign up, they are required to upload their right to work documentation, and take a picture of their face.
  2. This is passed onto Persona, our government-accredited identity service provider.
  3. Their verification software biometrically checks their documents to ensure compliance with UK regulations.

How do I check that the person who arrives is the correct Stinter?

Ensuring that the Stinter who accepts your Stint is the one who arrives - is fundamental. To facilitate this, we've integrated the following function into our check-in process:

Visual Confirmation: When a Stinter arrives at your site, our system allows you to display an image of the expected Stinter. For UK passport holders, this image is the same one provided during their identity verification process at sign-up, which is biometrically linked to their passport photo. For international Stinters, it is the photo submitted in their visa application to the Home Office. In both cases, this ensures a direct link to their official identity document.

Likeness Check: Once you display the picture in your app, you can compare the likeness to Stinter in front of you. This step is known as a 'likeness check' and confirms their identity.

Instances where the identity doesn't match are extremely rare. However, in the unlikely event that this occurs, please inform our Support Team. We will promptly address the issue.

How do you ensure a Stinter has the right to work in the UK?

Ensuring that every Stinter has the legal right to work in the UK is a fundamental aspect of our process. When Stinters sign up, they are required to upload their right to work documentation, and take a picture of their face. This is passed onto Persona, our government-accredited identity service provider. Their verification software biometrically checks their documents to ensure compliance with UK regulations.

Do Stinters have hospitality experience?

Stinters on our platform come from diverse backgrounds, and while some may have prior experience in hospitality, it's not a prerequisite to join Stint. We value qualities like a positive attitude, reliability, and the initiative to learn and adapt quickly.

It's essential to highlight that, although a Stinter may not have prior experience, they're motivated to learn on the job!

Most importantly, once you're underway and rating Stinters, our matching process prioritises those you've rated highly, showing them your upcoming Stints. This means that, soon enough, it's your favourite familiar faces returning Stint after Stint.

These processes, supported by our rating and discplinary systems, ensure you can confidently tap into our pool of eager Stinters ready to get stuck in!

To find out more, please have a read of our 'Quality Assurance' section.

What tasks could Stinters be doing at my business?

During the implementation process, we'll work with you to define Stint roles personalised to your business. While we tailor towards specific requirements, these are some of our common Stint roles.

  • Kitchen Porter
  • Commis Waiter
  • Barback
  • Polisher
  • Cloakroom Attendant
  • Cleaning Assistant

Quality assurance

Does Stint have a quality assurance process?

As Stinters receive positive ratings and build a rapport with you, our matching process prioritises their profiles, showing them your upcoming Stints before other Stinters. This means that, soon enough, it's your favourite familiar faces returning Stint after Stint.

Stinters from this customised pool, regularly working at your business, become part of the team! Over time, there's the opportunity for them to naturally enhance their skills, contributing to your business even more effectively.

Nevertheless, our robust rating system ensures that Stinter performance is consistently evaluated, allowing us to provide feedback and address any issues promptly. You can find out about our rating and disciplinary systems below!

How does the Stint rating system work?

After each Stint, businesses rate the Stinter based on their efficiency, attitude, effort, and overall presentation. These ratings collectively contribute to a Stinter's overall performance score.

Our rating system is an essential tool to surface substandard performance and protect your Stint experience. Actively rating your Stinters helps us maintain our exceptional standard of service across the platform!

How does the Stint disciplinary system work?

We have a clear disciplinary system designed to ensure reliability and professionalism among our Stinters, and maintain our quality of service.

Strikes are assigned to Stinters who are non-compliant with these expectations.

Our system addresses punctuality, adherence to uniform requirements, last-minute cancellations, and more.

We maintain a 3-strike approach - if a Stinter accumulates three strikes, their account is reviewed and may be deactivated from the platform.

Do you provide training resources to Stinters?

Yes! We provide Stinters with valuable educational resources before their Stints.

These range from

  • Stint specific videos
  • Role explainers
  • Tips from the business
  • Tips from fellow Stinters

While many Stinters join without prior experience, these resources prepare them to carry out their roles confidently and efficiently.

Importantly, Stinters learn quickly on the job, adapting to different Stint roles and businesses. Giving them guidance in their first few Stints with you goes a very long way!

What happens if I have a negative experience with a Stinter?

If a Stinter's performance is below-standard, it's important to rate them via the app. The sooner the better! Providing written feedback or further details is also very helpful for us.

Beyond poor performance, if you ever encounter any challenges with a Stinter, please contact our Support Team. While these occurrences are rare, we take them very seriously.

Can I get the same Stinter back at my business if I like them?

We know that businesses value seeing their favourite Stinters Stint after Stint!

Our quality assurance and matching processes are designed to make that as frequent as possible.

When you actively rate your Stinters:

  • Our matching process prioritises those you've rated highly, showing them your upcoming Stints before other Stinters.
  • Over time, you naturally build up pool of regular Stinters.
  • Soon enough, it's your favourite familiar faces returning Stint after Stint.

Legalities

How does Stint ensure compliance with right to work regulations?

Ensuring that every Stinter has the legal right to work in the UK is a fundamental aspect of our process.

When Stinters sign up, they are required to upload their right to work documentation, and take a picture of their face. This is passed onto Persona, our government-accredited identity service provider. Their verification software biometrically checks their documents to ensure compliance with UK regulations.

When Stinters have an expiring right to work, they are prompted to provide a new share code via the app. They are blocked from accepting Stints until their right to work is successfully updated.

Are Stinters informed about health and safety?

During the onboarding process, we'll establish the Health & Safety guidelines specific to your site.

  • Fire-exit locations
  • Potential hazards: Any potential risks for a particular Stint or on-site.
  • Response to risks: Handling Health & Safety risks during a Stint and who to report to.
  • First aid: Locations, supplies and who's trained to assist.
  • Workplace measures: Information about specific safety practices at your site.
  • Site-specific details: Any unique Health & Safety insights particular to your business.

All this information is accessible to Stinters on their app before they start a Stint. While we provide vital safety information, addressing Health & Saftey is collaborative process between Stint and each business. It doesn't replace the comprehensive Health & Safety training you offer your regular employees. If you have specific requirements or questions, feel free to contact our business support team. We're here to help make every Stint safe and successful!
