Getting started
I'm an international student, can I sign up?
International students are welcome to join Stint! The key requirement is to have the right to work in the UK, as indicated on your visa. During sign-up, you'll need to provide your valid Home Office share code, which we use to confirm your right to work. When your right to work expires, we'll request your new share code.
Can anyone sign up for Stint?
To sign up, you must: Have the right to work in the UK, and be 18 years or older.
Other than that, reliability and a positive attitude are the qualities you need! It's great to keep in mind that, whilist there's no interview, your first few Stints serve as a first impression.
Do I need prior experience to join?
While prior experience in hospitality can be helpful, the most crucial aspect for success with Stint is your attitude and work ethic. This means a mix of showing initiative, following directions, and being a team player. We values hard workers who contribute positively and give their best effort! So, even if you're new to hospitality, your willingness to learn and adapt is what truly counts.
Is a CV required?
Nope! You don't need to provide your CV to use Stint.
Is there an interview process?
Nope! We don't have an interview process. Just follow the intstructions in the app to sign up.
Whilst there's no interview, it's important to remember that your first few Stints act as a first impression. So, showcasing a great attitude (like you would in an interview) is the key to building a successful profile!
Are there uniform requirements?
Uniform requirements vary by business and role, and will always be displayed clearly in the app. It will always be a range of these hospitality basics:
- Black / white t-shirt
- Black / white formal collared shirt
- Black jeans
- Black formal trousers
- Black trainers
- Black formal shoes
Just check the uniform details provided in the app before accepting any Stint, and turn up looking (and smelling!) fresh!
Can I have another job while using Stint?
Absolutely. You're free to have another job whilst using our platform. Just pick the Stints that fit your schedule, and commit to the ones you accept!
Creating an account
How do I create a Stint account?
Creating a Stint account is simple! Just head over to the App Store or Google Play, download the Stint app, and follow the on-screen instructions. We'll ask for some basic details like your name, date of birth, and university details if you're a student.
How do I prove my right to work?
You'll need to provide documentation that shows your eligibility to work in the UK. If you're a UK passport holder, you'll need your UK passport. Make sure you have it physically with you so you can take a live picture of it. If you're a non-UK passport holder, you'll need your Home Office share code.
I’ve completed the sign-up process. What’s next?
Thanks for completing the sign-up process! The next step will be account activation. This depends on the number of Stinters active in your city at the moment. We're growing rapidly, and the availability of Stints depends on the demand from new businesses we partner with. We'll be in touch with you as soon as we're able to activate your account!
What is the waitlist, and how does it work?
The waitlist is a way for us to manage the influx of new Stinters and ensure that Stinters already on the platform get a fair share of Stints. As our Stinter community expands, the availability of Stints is influenced by the number of businesses we partner with in your city. So, while on the waitlist, keep an eye on your app and emails. When Stints become available in your city, we'll notify you!
How long will I be on the waitlist?
The length of time you spend on the waitlist can vary depending on the demand for Stints in your city. Since the number of Stints fluctuate week-to-week, it's hard to give an exact timeline. Rest assured, our team is actively working to partner with more businesses and bring more Stint opportunities to the cities we work in. We really hope you can join us soon!
Booking Stints
How long does a typical Stint last?
Stints range from 2 to 8 hours in length. There's plenty of variation to choose from! The app always displays the specific duration for each Stint, allowing you to pick what suits your schedule best. If you ever agree to work overtime on a specific Stint, don't worry - you'll be compensated.
Are there minimum hours I’m required to work?
You're in control! Stint offers you the freedom to choose how much you work. While you're free to choose, businesses love consistency. Regular Stinters often get more offers, as our partners appreciate the reliability of familiar faces. Even committing to just one Stint a week can enhance your Stint experience.
How often do I need to complete Stints?
Flexibility is a big part of Stint - there are no minimum hours and you're in complete control of which Stints you accept. That said, if you'd like to benefit from more regular offers, then doing Stints on a regular basis will help! Even doing 1-2 Stints a week will give you access to a wider range of Stint offers, and you'll develop a great rapport with businesses!
Roles and responsibilities
What tasks are involved on Stints?
Stints cover a range of tasks, spanning from back-of-house responsibilities to front-of-house roles. Tasks are always outlined in the app, so you can choose Stints that work with your preferences!
Here’s some examples of tasks you could be doing:
- Washing dishes in a Kitchen Porter role
- Running and drinks
- Polishing glasses and unloading the dishwasher as a Barback
- And more!
Remember, the more Stints you do at your favourite businesses, the more skills you'll gain!
What’s expected of me on Stints?
Stint roles vary, and you'll always find clear descriptions on the app outlining the primary and secondary tasks you're expected to do.
While these offer guidance, they're not always set in stone. If there are additional ways you can help out on the day, collaboration is key! Businesses always appreciate a proactive Stinter, and they'll be more than willing to provide direction on how you can help.
When you're on a Stint, you're a part of the team! A positive attitude with coworkers, managers, and customers is essential. If you work well within the team and provide a great service, you'll get top ratings, more offers, and make the most of your Stint experience!
Who will I be working with?
When you head to your Stint, you become part of their existing team! This means collaborating with core staff and sometimes other Stinters.
While many Stint roles involve individual tasks, you're contributing to a wider team effort that keeps the business running smoothly.
Making a good impression and getting top ratings will lead to more offers from the same businesses! It's a great opportunity to create positive working relationships with a team, making your Stint experience even more rewarding.
Performance and feedback
How is my performance rated on a Stint?
We have a star rating system in place that Stinters and businesses use after every Stint. Businesses rate your performance based on:
- Efficiency completing tasks
- Attitude
- Initiative
- Presentation
While you may not be directly interacting with customers and coworkers, you'll be working in the same space as them, so it's super important to be looking (and smelling!) fresh!
On the ocassion of receiving a low rating from a business, our Support Team offer a feedback call, so you can gain more understanding and get tips for doing better next time.
We strive to maintain a balanced system that considers the Stinter experience, while delivering the trustworthy service that businesses deserve!
Other than performance, what do I need to do to achieve top ratings?
Achieving top ratings isn't just about your performance during Stints. Reliability is crucial, and our 3 strike system helps track that! To maintain top ratings, make sure you:
Arrive promptly: Always be on time to start your Stints. Punctuality is appreciated by both the businesses and our team.
Uniform: Wear the correct uniform as stated in the app for each Stint.
Complete your Stint: Stay for the entire duration of your Stint.
Cancellations: Never cancel Stints with less than 24 hours' notice.
By excelling in both performance and reliability, you'll be on the path to receiving those 5* ratings!
Can I rate businesses?
Yes! We understand that rating your experience can feel just as important as businesses rating your performance. Our in-app rating system provides platform for Stinters to let us know if any issues arise, and what could have been better.
We monitor the ratings that businesses both give and receive, so if there are repeatedly low ratings, or concerns shared by Stinters, we reach out to the business.
Safety and security
What measures does Stint take to ensure safety on Stints?
When you arrive at a Stint, a general manager will usually walk you through any specific health and safety protocols they have. Your personal safety is a top priority. Through our rating system, Stinters have a confidential platform to voice any concerns if they arise. We actively monitor the ratings given by Stinters, and if there's a shared concern, we reach out to the business and investigate further.
Payment
What's the hourly rate?
For Stints in London, you're paid £10.42 per hour. For Stints in the rest of our UK cities, the hourly rate is £9.50.
When and how do I get paid?
After your Stint(s), you'll get paid on the Friday of the following week.
For example, if you complete any Stints Monday - Friday, your payment will be processed and sent to you on Friday of the next week.
